Like Bob Dylan said, "Gotta Serve Somebody."

I've re-embraced the magic of serving as most artists will do when actively pursing their craft and although obsessively watching TRUE BLOOD has allowed me to feel more like Sookie Stackhouse and less like a regressing loser who will never make it, it's still unbelievably hard work.

Projects A-Go-Go!

I'm stumbling onto the world of hustling for money. Interested producers are asking for several ideas for a horror-comedy and so far, I'm loving this process. The title, the idea, the setting... this is the simple part. Directing my creative abilities to knock off specific criteria is a welcome challenge. However... now it's getting to what the story is really about...

Free Press!

With my radio journalist background, I found myself working reception for THE BEAR 100.3 FM shortly after I graduated from University. The experience was enough to start one of my many writing projects, a memoir called RADIO NOWHERE. It's my adventures in community radio - working for the controversial award-winning program Youth Menace, the failed government grant that nearly destroyed the local station, and how this feminist rrrriot girl found herself "going commercial" which meant being invited to staff parties at stripclubs, having urine, spit, and pints of blood dropped off of my desk, seeing Yukon Jack's ass, and meeting some of the coolest people in the world: Greg, Kelly, Chris, Kazi, and Fearless Fred... just to name a few! It's coming soon so watch for it!

Blink and You'll Miss Me!

Caution: May Contain Nuts
is a local sketch comedy show that's really taking off. I had the pleasure of being an 80's extra in the music video. The cast is hilarious. Way too much fun helping out on this one.

The bloodied chainsaw, severed limbs and skulls are up at chez Gay-Linz. LOVE Halloween. The creepy movies, reasons to smash pumpkins, and terrifying children in the neighbourhood.

In spite of desperately needing a break, I'm back to the writing board to create some brand new proposals for possible pay... here's hoping they like what we're offering...

A Script Baby is Born

89 Page Baby Boy
Honestly didn't think I (physically) had it in me to make the deadline. With a week to go, I was struck with SARS or the PLAGUE and had to sift through the fog that became my brain. Trying to weave the characters together and finish the 45 pages needed in a week... when you're at zero and need to turn it up to eleven... burnt out is an understatement.

But the screenplay is finished. The grant is out. And I don't want to write for a while...

Stills from "Surprise Party"

Cell Phones are dangerous!

Cannot wait to see this 16mm film on the big screen! Director James Scott had found this legitimately creepy farmhouse an hour from town, with it's own underground tunnel into hell. Shooting at the COLDEST day of the year, we got to play with some very tasty blood made by the lovely folks from October People Productions.

All About Dyck

While I was singing I ain't got no job, which was actually my roommate and I singing Biz Markie's He's just a friend and pretending to drink on the porch (Galen wasn't pretending), I decided to take a month off to be a twenty something layabout. AKA professional filmmaker.

The Result: We made this little film and won the 24/HR Film Contest at the Edmonton International Film Festival. My roommate Galen plays Dyck, a self-obsessed actor who doesn't realize the crew has turned to zombies. He just wants to get the shoot done and finishes it himself. We poke fun at Christian Bale obviously and just had a lot of fun staying up all night making this. Galen steals the show. Thanks again for the severance package... suckas.

Homage to Janet Leigh

This is what I do when left home alone... bring out the knives and take pictures of myself. All very vain, I know. But when you're re-creating an epic death scene, you get more points, right? I caught Psycho on AMC, just in time for Janet's close up. Seriously, nothing can touch this moment in cinematic history.  So I found these photos I did during my short-lived blonde ambition tour. Thanks for the inspiration Janet!

Can you tell that I'm procrastinating??

Trespassing (2008)

Transforming to the Monster
What could be better than being a Scream Queen? EATING the Scream Queen! Aside from 5.5 hours of make-up and literally being glued into my flesh-tone one piece (thanks for helping me pee Greg) this was the most exciting project I've worked on yet! I love being a monster and hope I get to do it again soon!!

24 HRS to make a Film

At FAVA, writing the 1st film "Bradford" for the 24/One.

I've decided to not enter the 24/ONE contest again. The screenplay needs a lot of love and attention. But there are GOOD reasons to for any film enthusiasts out there.  We won Best Film and Best Cinematography last year for All About Dyck. Very exciting... so here is some encouragement for those who take it on.

New Project

Some inspirational images from the screenplay. I like to find visuals and music that speak to the themes and moods while I'm writing. For this one, I've been listening to The Cramps a ton and my Sergio Leonesque favourites, Calla.

Here's a visual collage of what's going on in my brain for the apocalyptic western.

Scream Queen of the B Scene

"Never thought this would come out of someone who looks like... Jane Austen." The older gentleman in my screenwriting group looks up, horrified. He's just read a graphic scene involving a severed head. I smile. "What is WRONG with you?" I often hear that when people get a glimpse of what's really going on in my head. Well...
